Central Alberta Gliding Club

 Founded in 1989
The current club was founded in 1989 by a group of pilots interested in gliding and looking for an economical way to get started. Everyone put up a small amount of money, and the first glider was purchased. This tradition continues, as all new members are required to pay an initiation fee, which is their ownership share in the club gliders. A significant number of our members are AME’s and aircraft home-builders, so all maintenance and refurbishments are done in-house. This keeps our costs low and affordable for all members. Maintenance experience is not required to become a member, but you will be expected to contribute your share of labour.

Similarly, our gliders are only insured for liability and not for airframe damage. Any damage done to the gliders will have to be repaired by our members. If you damage a glider and are not qualified to repair the damage yourself, you will still be expected to assist in the repairs as much as possible.

Our goal is to keep the cost of the sport within the reach of everyone, so that as many as possible can take flight.

The idea of forming a central Alberta gliding club started with Jerry Mulder who is an active aviation enthusiast living in Red Deer. He approached other enthusiasts from around the area and the response was well received. Many of the founding members came from the Red Deer and Innisfail flying clubs. The official list of founding members include:

Kern Bradbury Jerry Mulder
Gordon Chaytors John Mulder
